CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Bold Knots was a concept I co-developed with Özge Tığlı, of Bumbuku Creatives, for an open call submission.

Bold Knots was born out of a vision to support female refugees by harnessing the power of creativity and community. Developed in collaboration with Özge Tığlı of Bumbuku Creatives, the project sought to empower women by enabling them to knit bold, large-scale creations that would be sold to ease their transition during asylum or refugee camp periods. Though the project didn’t win the competition, it received glowing feedback for its originality and potential.

The Challenge
The concept needed to be both bold and nurturing, reflecting the strength of the mission while also offering a sense of support and community. We needed to build an identity that would not only resonate with women in vulnerable situations but also inspire consumers to support the cause.

The Solution
I designed the logo and branding with thick yarns and large, bold designs in mind to symbolise the project’s mission. The “Bold Knots” name, representing both the strength of the initiative and the literal craftsmanship of the women involved, was paired with a powerful visual identity that was approachable yet strong. The moodboard reflected these elements, and we treated the project as if it were a fully operational business.

The Result
Bold Knots showcased how design can go beyond aesthetics and be a vehicle for social change. The process reaffirmed my passion for concept development and social design.
